British cyclist Peter Joseph Blackmore, from Israel Premier Tech, pedaled his way to victory in Stage 6 of the 2024 Tour du Rwanda, clinching the coveted yellow jersey on a memorable Friday, February 23rd.

Celebrating his 21st birthday in style, Blackmore’s triumph on the arduous Mont Kigali ascent showcased not just his physical prowess but also his tactical finesse.

As the peloton tackled the grueling final kilometer, Blackmore remained composed, strategically timing his sprint to perfection and surging past his rivals to claim victory atop Nyamirambo.

Amidst the challenging terrain, only 69 riders crossed the finish line out of the 75 who set out at the start, highlighting the demanding nature of this year’s competition, which has drawn 94 cyclists.

With just two stages remaining, the Tour du Rwanda covers a total distance of 718.9 kilometers, marking its shortest route since 2009.

Currently leading the General Classification, Blackmore is trailed by Kazakhstan’s Iikhan Dostiyev in second place and Colombia’s Jhonatan Restrepo in third.

Among the Rwandan contenders, Eric Manizabayo leads the pack in 15th position, followed closely by Vainqueur Masengesho in 16th, and Moise Mugisha in 22nd, as they strive to make their mark on the international cycling stage.``
